So you wanna bee a Beekeeper?

Before we get into the wonderful world of bees, first consider what are your goals with becoming a caretaker of honeybees. Click on each photo.

Bee thoughtful more things to consider.

  • Honey bees are a living, breathing insects they will require maintenance.

  • Bees cost money protective equipment for yourself, equipment for your bees, feed (yes you will have to feed your bees), mite control. Bees are livestock and are an investment.

  • Will I include family, friends, a mentor or a bee club?

  • Can I lift more than 30lbs (if not there are different styles of beehives)

  • Do you have time to maintain your hives?

  • Do you have a good location?

  • Allergic?

  • How many colonies do you want?  (starting with two is recommended)

  • Your first year you may not get any honey.

  • Average upfront cost for first hive $500.00 - $1500.00.
